Protection
Guarding the eyes is easier with a wall than with willpower alone. Here is what Taqwa can and cannot do, and how to set up real blocking on your own devices.
Taqwa is not blocking anything on this device
Taqwa runs in your browser. A website is not allowed to block other apps, other websites, or content across your phone or computer, so this page has no blocking switch to turn on.
- Available:Focus timer inside Taqwa, while it is open
- Available:Step-by-step setup for your phone's own blocker
- Not available on the web:Block apps or websites on this device
- Not available on the web:Filter adult content across the device
Real device-wide protection needs a native app. A Taqwa phone app is a future choice and is not available yet. Until then, the built-in tools below do the blocking.
Focus time
A quiet timer for reading, dhikr or simply putting the phone down. It counts while Taqwa is open in this tab and does not block other apps.
25:00
Ready
On a touch screen hold, or tap twice. Click or Enter starts it at once.
Plan your rules
Choose when distracting apps should be off limits. Then set the same schedule in your device's own tool below. Nothing here is saved or enforced.
Your plan
Block adult content always, and distracting apps from after Isha until Fajr, every day.
Not active. Set it up on your device to make it real.
Set up real blocking
These are your devices' own tools. Names can differ slightly by version.
iPhone and iPad
- Open Settings, then Screen Time, and turn it on.
- Open Content & Privacy Restrictions and turn it on.
- Choose App Store, Media, Web & Games, then Web Content, then Limit Adult Websites.
- For your schedule, use Downtime with the days and hours you planned above.
- Set a Screen Time passcode that someone you trust keeps, so it is not one tap away.
Android
- Open Settings, then Digital Wellbeing & parental controls.
- Use Bedtime mode or Focus mode with the days and hours you planned above.
- For filtering, set up Google Family Link, or turn on SafeSearch in Google and a family-safe private DNS in Network settings.
- Ask someone you trust to hold the Family Link parent account if you want a firm wall.
Mac and Windows
- Mac: System Settings, then Screen Time, then Content & Privacy, then Limit Adult Websites.
- Windows: use Microsoft Family Safety to filter websites and set app limits.
- Turn on SafeSearch in your search engine's settings.
Your home network
- Many routers can use a family-safe DNS that filters adult sites for every device at home.
- Look for DNS or Parental controls in your router's admin page, or ask your internet provider.
If you slip, it is not the end of anything. Ask Allah's forgiveness, begin again, and set the next guard. A recovery day in Wellbeing lets you keep your own private record.
